COPYRIGHT BASICS
Here’s a quick quiz. Which of these items could be covered by a copyright: A) one of your photos on a Web-based photo sharing site, B) your friend’s newly self-published play, C) an online video of a drive you took around town? If you answered all three, you’re correct. Copyright infringement has been in the news a lot lately, but it can be tricky to figure out what is and isn’t covered. To clear up some of the confusion, read Copyright Basics from the Library of Congress and the Federal Citizen Information Center. This informative brochure outlines what can and can’t be copyrighted and tells you how to register your own materials with the Copyright Office. For a copy, send your name, address, and a check or money order for $1.00 to the Federal Citizen Information Center, Dept. 314R, Pueblo, CO 81009.
